Kalbarri sits at the mouth of the Murchison River gorge, 590 km north of Perth, with five Indian Ocean beaches that range from the town's main patrolled beach to the rugged surf breaks and snorkelling spots of Blue Holes, Jake's Corner and Red Bluff south along the coast. The beaches here face west to north-west and are more exposed to Indian Ocean swell than much of the WA coast — conditions can be powerful, and the live shelter rating is especially useful for visitors unfamiliar with the area.
