Fremantle's beaches run south from Leighton through Port Beach and Bathers Beach to the calmer shores at South Beach and Henderson — five north-facing beaches that sit partially sheltered by the Fremantle harbour and breakwaters. Bathers Beach, in the shadow of the port's south mole, is the most sheltered for swimming; Leighton and Port Beach see more swell and are popular for kitesurfing when the Fremantle Doctor sea breeze is running.
